Cafe review: Made by Jonty

I’ve been meaning to go to this well reputed cafe on Sharrow Vale Road for ages now. We finally got round to going last Saturday while the boys were busy.

Made by Jonty is a very popular, bustling little cafe in Sharrow, next door to Sheffield legend Pete McKee’s gallery. We had to wait for a table for a few minutes but once sat down we got served quite quickly.

We were there for brunch, which is always a bit tricky for coeliacs – everything generally comes with bread / toast / bagels etc. But the kitchen has a special toaster for gluten free bread, and I was told most things could be tailored. The thing that caught my eye on the menu was the breakfast burrito – a spicy Mexican take on a cooked breakfast, with salsa, spring onion and GF hash browns! What’s not to love? Of course, I couldn’t have the wrap part of the burrito, but they made me a deconstructed version on GF toast, which was delicious:

I was also told that all the cakes they had on display (that day) were gluten free, so I grabbed this quick snap on the way out! No room or time for pudding after a cooked breakie, but I hope to be back soon to check out some of these beauties:

Loving the ooze on that Victoria sponge!

From next weekend, Made by Jonty will also be opening on Sundays. As well as breakfast and cakes, they have an interesting variety of meals on their blackboards, some of which were marked gluten free. Today’s were nachos, sweet potato and coconut soup, and an intriguing artichoke and lentil salad with harissa dressing.
