No G and other goodies at Waitrose

Waitrose on Ecclesall Road has upped the ante on the Free From front. Last weekend they had a whole end of aisle chiller full of pre-prepared food, which looked like it may be there to stay.

On offer were a range of rather exotic sounding Soupologie soups (including curried sweet potato with coconut and cacao, cauliflower and kale with black garlic, and spirulina greens), a variety of No G pies, Kirsty’s ready meals (Spanish chicken with rice, Malaysian squash curry). They also had Pure ready meals, Alpro and Coyo yoghurts, and Heck sausages.

It’s nice to see a range of chilled free from foods on the shelves, but there are also many other good products in other areas. You just need to check the ingredients.

I treated us to a few of the No G pies as we’ve not really had many in the past, and I fancied trying the pork pie.

We were quite impressed with the pork pie. The filling was tasty with not too much jelly, and the pastry was really rather fine.

The boys shared a little No G chicken, bacon and leek pie for their tea (scoffed before a photo was taken). I thought this had a lovely flavour and particularly liked the smoked bacon in it. And the boys even ate the leeks!

I’m looking forward to going back to try some of the other goodies on offer…
